Analysis of the Haiku structure

café amer –
des bris de vitrines
sous mes semelles

Michel Duflo, France

Commentaire.

Autre ellipse importante pour dire les choses. L'auteur nous dit son amertume de lendemain de manifestation à casseurs au travers de celle du café. Double emploi de mot (amer), parallélisme entre discours de surface et discours profond.

Structure of this haiku.

Used techniques :

* simili - Similitudes.
Use of images with common semes. The sharing of common semes (qualities, characteristics) makes images reinforce each other. There is resonance because the mind makes the relationship between the two images.

A cup of tea and a lake share the fact that they are an expanse of liquid surrounded by a rim. We can "see" the image of one in the other.

* association - Associations.
Images in association. Interaction comes from the sharing of only a part of the semes. There are no similarities or oppositions that create a dynamic. However, the relationship is stronger than in the juxtaposition that places images side by side without semantic relationships between them.

* auteur - Presence of the author.
Presence of the author in the haiku, the author stages himself but does not necessarily speak about him.

* ellipse - Ellipsis.
Ellipsis: Only the minimum is said but the whole situation can be reconstruct by the reader.
This is also the case when only a part of the discourse is present. The remaining part can be guessed by the reader.

* concordance - Accordance between the surface and deep discourses
Accordance between superfical and deep discourses. Two parallel discourses.
