full moon—
a swollen tick
on the sow’s ear

pleine lune —
une tique gonflée
sur l'oreille de la truie

Commentaire.

Structure of this haiku.

Used techniques :

* atmosphere - Atmosphere.
Something emerges from all the elements that constitute haiku: a climate, an atmosphere. The author does not state this explicitly. It is the reader who reconstructs it from his or her own experience.

This is especially true in three-segment haiku, also called "grocery list". But this effect can also be achieved in other ways.

The mention of feelings related to the weather and taste adds a multisensory dimension to the atmosphere created.

* juxtaposition - Juxtaposition.
Use of images placed side by side to create an effect superior to that of each separate image. It is not a resonance effect as in similarity but rather a composition effect as in a painting or still life.

As the juxtaposed images have no or very few common semes, they compose a new global image in relation to its components.

* yugen - Yugen.
Yugen is a concept of Japanese aesthetics that can be expressed as deep, mysterious, dark, troubled.... In criticism of Japanese poetry, he expresses a subtle depth of things that are vaguely evoked in the poem.

* xxx - Undefined appeal.
Haïku having something undefinable that deserves further study.

* simili - Similitudes.
Use of images with common semes. The sharing of common semes (qualities, characteristics) makes images reinforce each other. There is resonance because the mind makes the relationship between the two images.

A cup of tea and a lake share the fact that they are an expanse of liquid surrounded by a rim. We can "see" the image of one in the other.

* opposition - Images in opposition.
Images with a group of opposite senses. The images are in opposition to each other. However, the opposite semes are grouped into dialectics. A dialectic is composed of opposite semes, like the two sides, poles of the same grade.

For example:
- Top and Bottom.
- Inside and Outside
- Big and Tiny

* opp-sim - Opposition-similarity.
Opposition AND similarity. A relationship between two terms is both an opposition and a similarity.

For example: an egg on the plate and the setting sun. There is a sharing of the semes of roundness, red, but opposition between Up versus Bottom, Large versus Small.

* dur - Opposition-similarity.
Opposition AND similarity. A relationship between two terms is both an opposition and a similarity.

For example: an egg on the plate and the setting sun. There is a sharing of the semes of roundness, red, but opposition between Up versus Bottom, Large versus Small.

Archetypes and dialectics

* D_HautBas - Up <> Down.

Une opposition entre ce qui est en Haut et ce qui est en Bas. Par exemple, le ciel et la terre, les étoiles et les lumières de la ville, les nuages et la mer...

* D_GrandPetit - Big <> Little.
